ano kato 40, 36x32” oil on portrait linen, as she looked at the end of my painting day
3:26 PM: today i cut a 41x37” piece of my portrait linen, which leaves enough to stretch a 36x32” painting. this one is part of my ano kato series, which i haven’t added to in a while. ano kato is a greek expression meaning topsy turvey. i thought it was an apt way of talking about my ongoing passion for making paintings of views from above. this one is inspired by photos i’ve shot over time in the metropolitan museum, MOMA and other museums here as well as in athens, greece.
ano kato 40 is, thus far, an integration of two different views from above; something i’ve never done. it will progress in the coming days and you’ll get a better idea of what i’m up to. and so will i!
