BELOW: dwell, 17x80” this painting was completed on july 3, 2022. the linen canvas has a grey primed surface, which was the last piece from a roll i used for the two paintings ABOVE, inspired by the tokyo olympics celebration.
BELOW: 9 new works in the series ANSCHUTZ FROM ABOVE. they are oil on linen, 16x20” and have been inspired by the extraordinary architecture of the anschutz medical center in denver, as seen from the 4th floor, looking down.
during one of our many visits to the ophthalmology department at anschutz, where i’ve made numerous sketches of patients while awaiting my appointment, i wandered over to the railing where it’s possible to look clear down to the lower floors. I was riveted!
I saw the unique architectural details bathed in light from the large windows, shifting patterning and colors on the tile floors and patients seated in the comfortable armchairs, waiting for their turn to visit their doctor.
I began shooting a series of photos, which has resulted in this series of 9 paintings, and there may be more to come.
