morning drawing / modifications to 2021 creek oil 4 / by Philip Tarlow

3:23 PM: i made some additions to 2021 creek oil 4, which i think have made it a better painting. we had it in the house, on a very narrow part of our east wall. since it’s a very skinny shape: 78x16,” it worked well on that wall. but the more we looked at it, the more we both felt there was just too much, especially on the upper portion, that didn’t really hang together. it’s always tricky to go back to a painting you haven’t worked on for a whole month, but so far what i’ve done is working. in addition to the changes i made to the top third of the composition, i fleshed out the two figures quite a bit more. not yet sure if i want or need to do any more…let’s see tomorrow.

3/20/21 morning drawing

12:11 PM: this morning i made another morning drawing; the second one i’ve made inspired by cacti in our bedroom.

once i brought yesterday’s naked in the acropolis museum back to the house, it was like waking from a dream, and i realized what a lousy painting it is. so today i’ll paint over most if not all of it, as well as returning to creek oil 4. it’s been in the house for the past few weeks, and it just feels like it needs more work. so i’ll get busy and post when i’ve done some work.
