good catch!/ preparing for parade 42:24x48" / by Philip Tarlow

parade 41 & 37 hanging on my east facing studio wall today

12:38 pm update: now that parade 41 is resolved, i'm moving on to the next in the series: parade 42, 24x48". i had discovered photos taken at a denver sidewalk art fair in 2004, and used them as source material for parade 30 and 40. these photos were a huge turn on for me. they were of one of the sidewalk artists, a woman, creating a reproduction of what looks to be a tiepolo. she sits on the sidewalk in full sunlight, surrounded by colored chalks and with a sizable crowd looking on, admiring her skill.

i wanted to find the original 2004 folder with all the shots i took that day. but i'm so bad at organizing my more than 10 external drives, that it seemed like looking for a needle in a haystack. and lo, i located it on the second drive i searched! mainly because i had labeled it correctly: denver sidewalk art! so now that our alamosa trip has been put off till friday, i can begin preparing for parade 42, which will draw on some of the long lost shots in this folder.

there's a sidewalk art festival happening again next weekend in denver. we have somewhat of a scheduling conflict, but are hoping to make it so that i can gather more material. just a word more about the particular 2004 shots of the tiepolo reproduction. the painting she is reproducing is one of his ceiling works, so i'm shooting her from above looking down while she's making a chalk painting on the sidewalk of a subject seen from below looking up. so cool.
