3:30PM UPDATE: this is the current state of parade 39 as i quit for the day and scurry back to the house before the next in a series of strong storms moves into the valley.
parade 39 32x78" as it looked at 2:30pm
this is the second day in a row i didn't sleep well, so i fell asleep twice during my meditation. upon entering my studio at about 10, i went straight for my drawing books and calligraphy brushes. somehow, i remembered my daily warm-up exercises, where i make gestural marks in one of my drawing books while looking at reproductions of huang tingjian's 10th c. calligraphy. these sheets of exercises will eventually be cut up and used in my collages.
perhaps i remembered because dan was one of our dinner guests last night, and gifted me another beautiful map to use in my collages. right now i'm focused on creating new parade series paintings for my november show, but as soon as i've done the paintings for that, i'll return to my abstract collages, which i've been missing. and, as dan knows, i use the maps he's given me, some dating back to the late '30's, as integral elements in those collages.
