"'Twas brillig and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe "
Lewis Carroll as quoted by donald fagen in the current issue of rolling stone
2:40pm update: the storm has arrived, and i couldn't have chosen a better day to stretch canvas. it's so dark, i wouldn't have had enough light to paint.so i did complete stretching the 32x32" canvas for parade 33: the final in this first grouping of parade 1 through 14, using the first roll of portrait linen. i just ordered a second roll, which should arrive within a week.
once i've completed parade 33, i'll probably have a few days before then new canvas arrives to plan out the next 14 paintings. if i can complete them by the middle of october, that will give me 28 parade series paintings from which to make a final selection for the show. we'll probably travel to houston at the end of june with all the completed paintings so that the gallery can have them to show prospective clients and make advanced sales.
BELOW: the drawing for parade 33, based on a series of photos shot in the MOMA sculpture garden eight or nine years ago. in the center of the image is picasso's goat sculpture.
looking east, towards the 14,300 ft. crestone peak. on the wall: parade 26, 12x60"
view out our east living room window: snow is already falling above 11,000 ft.
8:41am update: it's overcast, with the temperature at 41.6F and the barometric pressure at 29.82 and falling. we have a winter storm warning from noon today to noon tomorrow. in our part of the world this is normal for late april. it appears the storm may hit further south than originally forecast, so predicted snow totals have been scaled back: up to 6 inches in our part of the unincorporated baca grande and up to 20 inches above 11,000 ft.
ABOVE: a photo i just shot of our east facing living room, with parade 26 visible on the wall. you can't really see out the window in this shot. in the shot on the right, you can discern snow already falling above 11,000 ft.
i'll be heading to my studio shortly, where i'll stretch the canvas for the next parade painting, which will be 32x32." and that will be the last of this roll of magnificent, quadruple primed french artfix portrait linen. so i'll be ordering a new roll to accommodate the rest of the series, in preparation for my show in houston, opening november 5th. i've learned a lot from this first round of 14 paintings, which will be incorporated into the next round.

you can read about my son dimitri on my "stories" page in the drop down menu. a few days ago he gave an in depth interview for protothema.gr. it's quite beautiful and reveals his love for the theatre in new ways. unfortunately, it's in greek, or i would give you the link. perhaps i can find the time to write a synopsis. if so, i'll publish it on my "story" page.
