this morning i'm taking care of some logistics, since, as i mentioned yesterday, we have to leave at 1pm for alamosa, 50 miles south of us.
since i won't be continuing the parade 22 painting till tomorrow morning, i decided to post some of the paintings i made during the summer of 2005 on the cycladic greek island of andros, where we were visiting with my son dimitri & grandkids philip & manio. most were painted on site and all are in private collections in athens. the villages you see in a few of them are menites, zaganiari and on row 2, a cluster of stone structures for the cows & goats, near yialia beach.
they are all painted in gouache on archival paper on a tannish ground, which i learned from tsarouchis, who learned it from his teacher kondoglu, who in turn learned it from the byzantine painters. figures in the landscape are special for me, and i've looked long and hard at many of the painters in the history of art who have focused on this, including courbet, corot, goya and many others.
