we had this one hanging in our house since march 4th, when it was created. we looked at it every day, and enjoyed it. as the collages have developed, they have evolved to a more spare aesthetic, where just a few stronger elements co-exist with paler, more suggestive marks, allowing, i believe matisse's principle of luxe, calm, et volupté to operate.
Là, tout n'est qu'ordre et beauté,
Luxe, calme et volupté. baudelaire
on the left, the original collage from march 4th, and on the right, how it looks today. it's good but too blah. more tomorrow?
i was expecting this revision would take an hour or so of my time, but of course it took all day. so the 38x38 inch canvas i stretched yesterday will have to wait until tomorrow, as an early spring snow storm approaches from the southwest, skies darken and the winds pick up.
