3/10/14 one new collage and a re-work of yesterday's / by Philip Tarlow

yesterday's namu atol has been radically re-worked and is now titled mingus.

a bolder energy is evident in today's work. the rocks and water announce their presence, while engaging in a dance with the calligraphic marks. i'm feeling more certainty in the marks i make, and more commitment to the often random placement of the collaged pieces, allowing my instinct to operate unbridled. towards the end of the process, there is usually more deliberate placement of these pieces alternating with short drawing sessions, which are then usually cut up and mounted in strategic spots. on a good day, the whole process resolves much like the completion of a symphony.
