2/3/14 3 new collages: a lighter touch / by Philip Tarlow

3 new collages today. i was about to transition to larger pieces on canvas, but i felt like the shift in direction that took  direction place 2 days ago (see 2/1/14 blog post) needed further exploration.

i'm glad i persisted. less is more wins out again. in the last series of paintings for my solo show at gremillion in houston, it was only after 3 or 4 months of constant work that i arrived at simpler solutions, with a lot more white space, more breathing room. in this current series of collages, i have arrived at a similar place after only about 10 weeks of work.

click on north crestone creek in the menu bar to the left. look at the paintings in the top row and notice how they mirror these recent collages.
