changes to rocky creek & pink creek, temporary frame on qu dong creek /January 30, 2013 by Philip Tarlow

last week wendy, a dear friend, said she was bothered by a shape that to her read as a hat, on the upper left quadrant of rocky creek. today that shape was removed from the painting. i think she was right; without that shape, the entire upper half of the painting breathes in a way it previously didn't. see jan. 17-18 post for previous state.

i worked on pink creek, which is still unresolved. if you make the painting full screen, you might notice that the piece of paper taped to the canvas in the upper central area has not yet been glued down. still thinking about it.

1:30pm the paper was glued down then partially painted over, as the dark grey brush stroke was too dominant.

and we brought ku ding creek to our living room & placed it in this temporary hardwood frame. my friend and mentor tsarouchis used to refer to the frame as "the painting's john," or "davadzis" in greek. he was full of juicy, always spot on comments such as this. in this case, it proved true beyond expectations.
